Who Is Selkirk Fire?

On January 1, 2015, the Sagle Fire District and City of Sandpoint Fire Department were consolidated into Selkirk Fire, Rescue and EMS by a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA), combining all aspects of the fire department operations (except finances). Then, on October 1, 2016 the Westside Fire District joined. The Joint Powers Agreement has allowed the job sharing of the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Chief’s assistant which brought savings to each department.

The JPA has allowed all three fire departments to increase their capabilities and become more efficient in regards to emergency responses, fire prevention, public education and community outreach. The JPA was developed in a way that will allow other organizations to join and participate in the consolidation. Selkirk Fire, Rescue and EMS is managed by a Board of Commissioners who are represented by two Sandpoint City Council Members, two Sagle Fire Commissioners, two Westside Fire Commissioners and a member from the community. The Board approves all aspects of the District except finances which are currently kept separate; however, employees and equipment are intermingled.

What has occurred between the City of Sandpoint, the Sagle Fire District and the Westside Fire District is a great example of good government at work. Instead of having three separate fire departments operating independently, the community now has a better equipped, cohesive emergency services delivery system.

Selkirk Fire, Rescue and EMS consists of 21 full-time employees and 30 volunteer firefighters currently responding out of three fire stations. Fire Station #1 is located at 1123 Lake Street in Sandpoint, Fire Station #2 is located at 825 Railroad Avenue in Dover and Fire Station #3 is located at 2689 Gun Club in Sagle. The Department protects approximately 194 square miles.

The Administration office is located in our Sandpoint Fire Station and where we can take care of all your Fire Department business needs.
